Dr Saleem Qureshi and Dr Musarrat Iqbal, in collaboration with Sanofi Aventis launched the first program of the “The kids Project” by International Diabetes federation in Rawalpindi Islamabad. This program was conducted at the City Model School Rawalpindi. This full day program consisted of three sessions. In the first session, 500 students were evaluated for Ht., Wt. and nutritional status and then they were educated on coping with diabetes in school with a focus on healthy nutrition and physical activity. The other two sessions were conducted separately for over 200 teachers of the school and for parents. It emphasized the need and prerequisite for providing a safe environment for those with diabetes and the importance of teaching staff members in coping with day to day problems of children with diabetes.
